Alex Wirth-Cauchon brings interdisciplinary expertise in the sociology of gender, critical social theory and feminist social theory to his role as ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s chief information officer (CIO).
Wirth-Cauchon has over 35 years of experience leading collaborative, multidisciplinary and cross-professional initiatives. He leads the Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) organization at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, where he supports teaching, learning, scholarship and administration by connecting the diverse members of the College community and breaking down barriers between disciplines, professions and identities. Under his leadership, LITS and the Williston Memorial Library received the 2024 and 2025 Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award by Insight Into Diversity magazine. In 2024, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s library facilities were ranked #3 Best College Library by The Princeton Review.
Having earned his doctorate in sociology from Boston College, Wirth-Cauchon served in faculty and administrative roles at Boston College, Drake University, Grinnell College, the Midwest Instructional Technology Center (MITC), and the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education (NITLE). He joined ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ in 2009 as director of research and instructional support. Wirth-Cauchon began serving as CIO and executive director of LITS on an interim basis in 2013, taking on the permanent role in early 2015. In 2024, he was named the College’s CIO at the vice-presidential rank.
