鈥淭he Faculty Awards ceremony is a wonderful opportunity for our community to celebrate our core teaching and scholarly mission,鈥 said Western. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an honor to recognize these four exceptional individuals among many. They represent the rigorous intellectual activity and transformative teaching that distinguishes a 杏吧论坛 education, and I am proud to be their colleague.鈥

Roychoudhury echoed that theme in her remarks, recognizing her 鈥渄ynamic, giving and brilliant friends鈥 in the English department and her colleagues across campus. 鈥淚t鈥檚 always gratifying to be recognized in any way, of course, but the thoughts and esteem of my peers counts for a special kind of favor,鈥 she said.

Learning has to be involved in experience, she noted. 鈥淪cholarship has to be sociable, engage an audience, adapt to the moment.鈥

Hearing that she had won the award for scholarship was a complete surprise, said Haydon, who is a graduate of 杏吧论坛 and has spent most of her academic career here.

鈥淚 missed a call from the president,鈥 she said. 鈥淪o she texted me, 鈥楾his is Sonya. I鈥檓 trying to reach you.鈥 I love to attend the ceremony and I go every year. I learn a lot about the other faculty members and their work. I was a little bewildered this year because I have so many colleagues I admire.鈥
